UGC asks universities to provide concessions to Kashmiri migrants

Concessions to Kashmiri Migrants

Universities across the country have been sent a fresh communication by UGC asking them to provide concessions to the wards of Kashmiri migrants for admissions to various courses in the 2015-16 academic year.

As per the communication, universities should introduce a 10 per cent relaxation in the cut-off percentage for Kashmiri migrant students, increase intake capacity up to five per cent course-wise, reserve at least one seat in merit quota in technical and professional institutions, and waiving off of domicile requirements.

In March 2013, the HRD Ministry had drawn up these additional concessions for Kashmiri migrant students as they “continue to face hardships” and universities were requested to introduce them.

While some univesities have introduced the concession, several others are yet to abide by the UGC directive.
